Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone
Here I was invited to be apart of a local instagram creatives meetup in Milwaukee. This small, local event was planned by staff of a local magazine called Copywrite. This took place in a very artistic cafe that holds many creative events, in the Milwaukee Third Ward.
I did know a few people involved in this and I almost didn't go. Other than being able to admit, I am a bit of an introvert, I didn't know why I didn't want to go, but being an introvert, there really doesn't need to be a reason but a feeling. Despite all that, I chose to go anyway!
While I was there I was able to see old friends and network and meet new people who were also involved in photography, modeling and fashion styling. There was also a fashion designer there showcasing her work. I personally, generally, always use off camera flash or a reflector for my photography and this gave me the opportunity to play around a bit and just use natural lighting.
It wasn't my first time relying on natural lighting, of course, but if I can avoid it I typically do. So, you can imagine how that can be even a little bit of a challenge since it's not something I'm used to. However, I met the challenge head on! It was an opportunity to get even more familiar with my camera and its settings. I'm a Canon user for anyone curious. With the help of editing I was able to get the photos where I wanted them to be. It defiantly helped that it wasn't an overly sunny day.
Not only was I able to work with the models, in different clothing styles, in a creative environment with art displayed, it was a visually captivating.
Had I not just said yes to this harmless and fun networking opportunity, I just wouldn't have had the experience I did in this new place with some new people!
